Back-to-School shopping

It’s getting close to back-to-school time, and that means it’s time to spend your hard-earned money purchasing school supplies for the kids.  But it doesn’t have to break your budget!  You can get everything the kids need and save money – it just requires a little creativity.

Lincoln Savings Bank wants you to enjoy back-to-school time, so we’ve compiled some savings tips to go back-to-school on a budget:

Keep track of sales – As the first day of school draws nearer, check out the Sunday inserts in your local newspaper or their store websites. Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, Wal-Mart and Target will have sales at different times, so keep track of what you need, where it’s being sold, and when the sale is. Look for coupons and keep them organized. This extra effort will help you save a ton.

Do a clothes swap – Ask other parents you know to meet and exchange clothing items for free. Your kids will be excited about the new clothes, and you can donate some that your kids have outgrown or lost interest in.

Check out other gently used clothes options – Garage sales and stores like Plato’s Closet and Goodwill provide gently used clothes at a much lower price than buying new. Plus, Plato’s Closet sells trendy brand name clothing.

Don’t purchase everything at once – Try picking up school supplies you know the kids will need throughout the summer, instead of all at once, so you don’t have to drop a lot of money at one time.

Get next year’s supplies after the rush – After back-to-school season is over, pick up the things you know your kids will need next year when they’re discounted.

If you use these tips in your back-to-school shopping, it will be easy to save money and buy one or two splurge items for your kids before the school year begins – and still save money! Get your kids the new shoes, shirt or backpack they want, but save on all the rest.  If you’re looking to keep that saved money in a safe place, set up a savings account with us today!
