The Mikes Take on DC

Mike Olson and Mike McCrary from Lincoln Savings Bank recently attended an American Bankers Association Government Relations Summit in Washington DC. It’s important for community banks to ensure their voices are heard by our lawmakers, particularly when the rules and regulations they pass ultimately impact our customers.

During the trip, an Iowa contingent from the group met with all six of our representatives and senators. The only deviation from this plan was a visit to Florida Congressman Bill Posey’s office. Mike Olson is a former member of the Citizen’s Coinage Advisory Committee to the US Mint and has been working with Rep. Posey’s office on legislation which would authorize coins to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 2019.

The Mikes are pictured here with a now-infamous pile in Congressman Posey’s office– a stack of federal regulations issued since Posey took office in 2011 presented to demonstrate the seriousness of the problem. Bankers, business owners, and the general public experience the cost and frustration over these several regulations every day as we go about our daily lives and need to communicate this frustration with our elected officials.
