Community Banking Month Recap: Small Moments, Lasting Impact

As we reflect on Community Banking Month this past April, Lincoln Savings Bank is proud to celebrate what it truly means to be a community bank—one built on connection, service, and long-term investment in the people and places we serve. Since 1902, LSB has remained dedicated to strengthening Iowa communities, a commitment we continue through meaningful giving, local partnerships, and a little creativity along the way.

One of the most recognizable ways LSB shows up in our communities is through popcorn—a small gesture that has grown into a meaningful tradition across the state. From popping popcorn in our branches on Fridays for all to enjoy to donating popcorn and supplies to local schools, our popcorn has truly gone a long way. And while it may seem simple, to help visualize just how impactful it really is, here’s what the past decade of LSB popcorn looks like when laid out:

  • 1,200 miles of popcorn, enough popped kernels to stretch the perimeter of Iowa
  • 29,000 pounds of popcorn shared with our communities
  • 1.8 million bags served across the state
  • 232,000 gallons of freshly popped popcorn enjoyed

Together, it’s a reflection of how something small can create meaningful connections and lasting traditions throughout the communities we serve.

In celebration of Earth Day, LSB branches also handed out seed paper throughout the month of April. Seed paper is a biodegradable paper embedded with wildflower seeds—when planted, it grows into blooms that support pollinators and brighten local spaces. It’s another small but meaningful way we connect with our communities, encouraging a lasting impact that extends beyond the moment and quite literally grows over time.

That same philosophy drives the work of the LSB Foundation, which embodies what we call Lincoln Love. Since its inception in 2005, the foundation has proudly given back more than $4.2 million to support nonprofit organizations across the communities we serve. The Foundation is committed to strengthening the communities we serve through its five key pillars:

  1. Community Revitalization
  2. Financial Literacy, Arts & Education
  3. Health & Wellness
  4. Youth Development
  5. Affordable Housing

Through these pillars, the foundation invests in initiatives that strengthen communities today and build opportunities for the future. Grant applications are accepted year-round from qualified 501(c)(3) organizations and are reviewed on a quarterly basis.

As we reflect on Community Banking Month, we are grateful for the trust our customers place in us and for the opportunity to give back in meaningful ways. Whether through a grant, a volunteer effort, or a simple act of kindness, Lincoln Savings Bank remains committed to investing locally and helping Iowa communities grow, one connection at a time.
